On 18th February 2026, the Food Corporation of India (FCI) signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the World Food Programme (WFP) to supply rice for global humanitarian operations aimed at combating hunger.

  • Under the agreement, FCI will supply 2 lakh metric tonnes of rice to support WFP’s international relief efforts.
  • The initiative reflects India’s commitment to global food security and efforts to address hunger, malnutrition and food insecurity worldwide.
  • The Food Corporation of India (FCI) was set up in 1965 under the Food Corporations Act, 1964.
  • Its primary duty is the purchase, storage, movement/transport, distribution, and sale of foodgrains to ensure national food security.
