Infrastructure Projects Inaugurated in Madurai

On 1st March 2026, Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated and laid foundation stones for infrastructure projects worth over ₹4,400 crore in Madurai.

  • The projects aim to enhance connectivity, boost economic activity, generate employment and improve regional livelihoods.
  • Foundation stone laid for four-laning of the Marakkanam-Puducherry section of NH-332A (₹2,100+ crore).
  • The corridor is expected to reduce travel time from about 1 hour to 30 minutes and ease congestion in Puducherry.
  • It will improve connectivity to Mamallapuram (Mahabalipuram), Kalpakkam Atomic Power Station and Auroville, and strengthen links with Viluppuram district.
  • Foundation stone laid for four-laning of the Paramakudi-Ramanathapuram section of NH-87 (₹1,800+ crore).
  • Travel time on this stretch will reduce from about 1 hour to 35 minutes.
  • The project enhances access to pilgrimage centres such as Madurai, Rameswaram and Dhanushkodi.
