Cabinet Clears Nutrient-Based Subsidy Rates for Kharif 2026

On 8th April 2026, the Union Cabinet, chaired by Narendra Modi, approved the Nutrient-Based Subsidy (NBS) rates for phosphatic and potassic (P&K) fertilisers for the Kharif 2026 season.

- Subsidy Period: Applicable from April 1 to September 30, 2026.
- Budgetary Outlay:
- ₹41,533 crore allocated.
- Higher than ₹37,216.15 crore in Kharif 2025.
- Objective:
- Ensure availability of fertilisers at affordable prices.
- Align subsidies with global price trends.
- NBS Scheme:
- Subsidy provided on P&K fertilisers.
- Includes Diammonium Phosphate (DAP) and NPKS fertilisers.
- Given to fertiliser companies based on approved rates.
- Coverage:
- Applies to 28 grades of P&K fertilisers.
- Distributed through manufacturers and importers.
- Key Inputs Considered:
- Urea,

- Muriate of Potash (MOP), and
- Sulphur.
