Defence Minister Boosts Central Asia Defence Ties

On 28th April 2026, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh held key bilateral meetings with defence ministers of Kyrgyzstan, Kazakhstan, and Belarus on the sidelines of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) Defence Ministers’ Meeting in Bishkek.

Bhishm Aarogya Maitri Health Cubes: India gifted two indigenously developed “Bhishm Aarogya Maitri Health Cubes” to Kyrgyzstan for humanitarian assistance, disaster relief (HADR), and search-and-rescue missions.
Military Capacity Building: Defence Minister announced the completion of a project providing 12 computer systems, wargaming software, and personnel training for Kyrgyz military institutions in Bishkek and Osh.
Kazakhstan Cooperation: Discussions with Kazakhstan focused on expanding defence collaboration across multiple sectors, reaffirming defence as a major pillar of bilateral relations.
Belarus Engagement: India emphasised training and capacity building as priority areas while seeking a mutually beneficial defence partnership with Belarus.
Strategic Regional Focus: The meetings underscored India’s effort to strengthen defence diplomacy in Central Asia and reinforce its strategic footprint within the SCO framework.
