PM Launches ₹4,000 Crore Projects in Sikkim

On 28th April 2026, Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated and laid the foundation stone for over 30 development projects in Sikkim worth more than ₹4,000 crore during the Statehood celebrations.
- The projects cover connectivity, healthcare, education, tourism, power, and urban development.
- Key connectivity initiatives include progress on the Sevok-Rangpo railway line, which will bring rail access to Sikkim for the first time.
- A proposed Bagdogra-Gangtok expressway is expected to improve regional travel.
- Healthcare projects include a 100-bed Ayurveda hospital in Namchi and an Integrated Sowa Rigpa hospital at Deorali.
- Education initiatives include infrastructure upgrades for Sikkim University and IT-enabled school improvements.
- Tourism and environmental projects include Ridge Precinct redevelopment, sewerage upgrades, and river pollution abatement.
- Agriculture-focused initiatives include an agro-processing plant to strengthen farmer value chains.
- The Prime Minister highlighted Sikkim’s fully organic status as a model for sustainable development.
- The projects aim to boost infrastructure, employment, and deeper integration with national growth networks.
