Shashi Shekhar Vempati

On 6th May 2026, the Centre appointed Shashi Shekhar Vempati as Chairperson of the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) for three years.

• The post became vacant after Prasoon Joshi stepped down following his appointment as Prasar Bharati chairman.
• Vempati previously served as CEO of Prasar Bharati from 2017 to 2022.
• He also held additional charge as CEO of the Rajya Sabha Secretariat between August 2017 and May 2019.
• The CBFC is the statutory body responsible for certifying films for public exhibition in India.
