Mizoram Ginger Mission Launched
- 14 May 2026
On 13th May 2026, the ₹189.79-crore Mizoram Ginger Mission was launched.
- The mission aims to transform Mizoram’s GI-certified pharma-grade ginger into a globally recognised premium product through value addition, processing and export-led market integration.
- The initiative is supported by multiple ministries and agencies including the Ministries of Agriculture, Rural Development and Food Processing Industries, along with NABARD, Indian Council of Agricultural Research and Agricultural and Processed Food Products Export Development Authority.
- Mizo ginger contains 6–8% oleoresin, significantly higher than the global average of around 3%.
- Despite its premium quality, farmers currently receive only ₹8–15 per kilogram, while the international value chain exceeds ₹500 per kilogram.
- The mission seeks to integrate nearly 20,000 farming households into a unified ecosystem focused on quality assurance, traceability and farmer-led value creation.
- The programme is based on four pillars: convergence, value addition, branding and market integration.
- The project includes one integrated processing hub, three spoke centres and more than 30 strategic interventions to reduce post-harvest losses and improve farmer incomes.
