On 13th May 2026, the Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA) approved the Ahmedabad (Sarkhej)–Dholera semi high-speed double-line railway project.

- Estimated cost: ₹20,667 crore.
- Corridor length: 134 km.
- Major Significance:
- First semi high-speed rail project of Indian Railways.
- Based on indigenously developed technology under Aatmanirbhar Bharat initiative.
- Timeline: Scheduled for completion by 2030–31.
- Connectivity:
- Connects Ahmedabad with:
- Dholera Special Investment Region (SIR).
- Upcoming Dholera Airport.
- Lothal National Maritime Heritage Complex.
- Objective:
- Reduce travel time between Ahmedabad and Dholera.
- Improve regional and daily commuter connectivity.
- Enable same-day return travel.
- Strategic Framework:
- Planned under PM Gati Shakti National Master Plan.
- Focus on multimodal connectivity and logistics efficiency.

- Will benefit nearly 284 villages.
- Covers population of around 5 lakh people.

- Generate employment and self-employment opportunities.

- Expected to reduce oil imports by 0.48 crore litres.
