Sikkim Declared a Fully Literate State

On 27th May 2026, Sikkim was officially declared a fully literate state under the ULLAS initiative.

With this achievement, Sikkim became the third fully literate state in Northeast India and the fifth fully literate state in the country.
It joined the group of fully literate states comprising Mizoram, Goa, Tripura and Himachal Pradesh.
ULLAS (Understanding of Lifelong Learning for All in Society), also known as the Nav Bharat Saaksharta Karyakram, was launched by the Ministry of Education.
The programme is aligned with the National Education Policy 2020 and focuses on adult education, functional literacy and lifelong learning.
