Sikkim Declared a Fully Literate State

On 27th May 2026, Sikkim was officially declared a fully literate state under the ULLAS initiative.
- With this achievement, Sikkim became the third fully literate state in Northeast India and the fifth fully literate state in the country.
- It joined the group of fully literate states comprising Mizoram, Goa, Tripura and Himachal Pradesh.
- ULLAS (Understanding of Lifelong Learning for All in Society), also known as the Nav Bharat Saaksharta Karyakram, was launched by the Ministry of Education.
- The programme is aligned with the National Education Policy 2020 and focuses on adult education, functional literacy and lifelong learning.
