Bashir Badr

On 28th May 2026, renowned Urdu poet Bashir Badr passed away in Bhopal at the age of 91 after a prolonged illness.

Badr was widely regarded as one of the most celebrated Urdu poets of his generation and was known for his simple, contemporary and emotionally resonant ghazals.
Born in Ayodhya on 15 February 1935, he was proficient in Urdu, Persian, Hindi and English.
His acclaimed collection Aas received the Sahitya Akademi Award for Urdu in 1999.
His notable works include Ikai, Image, Aamad, Aahat and Kulliyate Bashir Badr.
