SkyCast Aviation Weather Monitoring System

On 29th May 2026, Union Minister Jitendra Singh inaugurated India’s first SkyCast aviation weather monitoring system at Indira Gandhi International Airport under Mission Mausam to improve aviation safety and reduce weather-related flight disruptions.

- First-of-Its-Kind System: SkyCast is India’s first integrated aviation weather monitoring and forecasting platform.
- Global Position: With SkyCast, India becomes the 19th country to deploy such an integrated aviation weather intelligence system.
- Objective: The platform provides real-time weather intelligence to pilots, airlines, and airport operators to reduce delays, diversions, and cancellations.
- Advanced Technologies: SkyCast integrates Radar Wind Profiler, SODAR, Microwave Radiometer, Ground-based Fog Aerosol Spectrometer (GFAS), and CL61 Lidar-based Ceilometer.
- Weather Monitoring: The system continuously tracks fog, turbulence, wind speed, humidity, visibility, and atmospheric conditions up to nearly three kilometres above the airport.
