ASEAN, Russia Adopt Kazan Declaration

On 18th June 2026, Russia and the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) adopted the Kazan Declaration at the ASEAN-Russia Commemorative Summit, marking 35 years of dialogue relations and strengthening their Strategic Partnership.
Key Points:
- Kazan Declaration: The declaration, titled "ASEAN-Russian Federation: Unity in Diversity – 35 Years Together", provides a roadmap for expanding cooperation between ASEAN and Russia.
- Four Outcome Documents: The summit adopted:
- Kazan Declaration 2026;
- Joint Statement on Energy Cooperation;
- Joint Statement on Cultural Cooperation; and
- Plan of Action to Implement the ASEAN-Russia Strategic Partnership (2026-2030).
- Commitment to Multilateralism: The declaration reaffirmed support for a just, democratic and multipolar world order based on international law and the UN Charter.
- Eurasian Cooperation: ASEAN leaders also participated in discussions on Eurasian integration with representatives of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) and the Eurasian Economic Commission (EEC).
