PM Commissions Three Naval Platforms

On 21st June 2026, Prime Minister Narendra Modi commissioned three indigenously built Indian Navy platforms - INS Dunagiri, INS Sanshodhak and INS Agray, at Kolkata, marking a major boost to India's maritime capabilities and indigenous defence manufacturing.

Key Points:

  • Indigenous Shipbuilding: The vessels were designed by the Indian Navy's Warship Design Bureau and built by Garden Reach Shipbuilders and Engineers (GRSE), Kolkata.
  • INS Dunagiri: A Project 17A stealth frigate equipped with BrahMos supersonic cruise missiles and Medium-Range Surface-to-Air Missile (MRSAM) systems for advanced combat operations.
  • INS Sanshodhak: A survey vessel designed for coastal and deep-water hydrographic surveys to support safe navigation and maritime operations.
  • INS Agray: An Anti-Submarine Warfare Shallow Water Craft (ASW-SWC) equipped with sonar, torpedoes and rocket launchers for coastal defence and anti-submarine operations.
  • High Indigenous Content: The three platforms have over 75% indigenous content and involved the participation of more than 200 Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs).
