Norms Eased for Setting Up Private Universities

On 2nd July 2026, the Assam Cabinet approved a series of reforms to encourage greater private participation in the higher education sector.

  • The reforms aim to expand access to quality higher education and attract reputed private institutions to establish universities in the state.
  • The Cabinet has rationalised the minimum land requirement for setting up private universities.
  • It has also reduced the mandatory endowment fund requirement and simplified regulatory norms to facilitate private investment.
