  • 06 Jul 2026

On 3rd July 2026, ISRO successfully conducted the first ground test of the Sub-Orbital Launch Vehicle for Experiments (SOLVE) solid motor at the Satish Dhawan Space Centre, Sriharikota.

Key Points

  • Purpose: SOLVE is being developed to validate the Gaganyaan Crew Module's integrated parachute deceleration system under different test conditions.
  • Vehicle Design: The SOLVE solid stage is derived from the PSLV Strap-on Motor with modifications for Gaganyaan mission requirements.
  • Test Result: The first ground test successfully achieved the expected motor performance parameters, validating the design.
  • Significance: SOLVE will provide a flexible platform for conducting multiple Gaganyaan test missions before India's human spaceflight programme.
