On 20th July 2026, Andy Burnham was appointed Prime Minister of the United Kingdom, following a Labour Party leadership transition.
- Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed confidence that India–UK relations would deepen further under Andy Burnham's leadership.
- He highlighted cooperation in trade, investment, technology, defence, and people-to-people ties.
- PM Modi noted that the India–UK Comprehensive Economic and Trade Agreement (CETA) entered into force in July 2026, providing new momentum to bilateral cooperation.
