Operation Jal Rahat

In July 2026, the Indian Army launched Operation Jal Rahat to assist the Assam Government in rescue and relief operations as severe floods affected several districts in eastern Assam.

• The operation is being carried out in coordination with the civil administration, Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA), and other disaster response agencies.
• Army and Assam Rifles teams have been deployed in the worst-affected districts of Charaideo, Sivasagar, and Jorhat.
• Rescue teams are evacuating stranded residents and distributing relief materials in flood-affected areas.
