Campus Biodiversity Register Initiative

  • 23 Jul 2026

In July 2026, the Nature Conservation Foundation (NCF) and the National Biodiversity Authority (NBA) launched a nationwide initiative to prepare Campus Biodiversity Registers (CBRs) for colleges and universities across India.

  • It is led by the Nature Conservation Foundation (NCF), Mysuru, in collaboration with the National Biodiversity Authority (NBA).
  • The CBR is inspired by the People's Biodiversity Register (PBR), which documents local biodiversity and associated traditional knowledge.
  • A Campus Biodiversity Register (CBR) is a record of the biodiversity found within the campus of a higher educational institution.
  • The initiative seeks to document the diversity of plants, animals, birds, butterflies, insects, reptiles, mammals, fungi, and other organisms found on educational campuses.
