India and Nepal Inaugurate Restored Heritage Sites in Patan

On 28th July 2026, India and Nepal jointly inaugurated the restored heritage sites at Gusthal Mahavihar and Agam of Prathamshree Mahavihar in Patan, reconstructed with Indian assistance under Nepal's post-earthquake reconstruction programme.

- Financial Assistance: India funded the restoration with an assistance of approximately NPR 12 crore under its post-earthquake grant assistance programme for Nepal.
- Implementing Agencies: The restoration was executed by Nepal's Central Level Project Implementation Unit, while the Indian National Trust for Art and Cultural Heritage (INTACH) was responsible for design and project management.
- Restoration Approach: The project employed traditional Newari architectural techniques to preserve the original cultural and architectural character of the monastery.
