Fields Medal 2026 Awarded to Four Mathematicians

In July 2026, the Fields Medal, regarded as one of the highest honours in mathematics, was awarded to Yu Deng, John Pardon, Jacob Tsimerman, and Hong Wang for their outstanding contributions to mathematical research.

The Fields Medal is awarded by the International Mathematical Union (IMU) once every four years to mathematicians under the age of 40 for exceptional contributions to the field.
Yu Deng was recognised for solving part of Hilbert's Sixth Problem, advancing the mathematical understanding of the relationship between microscopic particle interactions and macroscopic physical phenomena.
John Pardon received the award for solving the MNOP Conjecture and developing the theory of virtual foundation cycles, with significant applications in geometry.
Hong Wang was honoured for solving the three-dimensional Kakeya Conjecture, a longstanding problem in harmonic analysis and geometric measure theory.
Jacob Tsimerman was recognised for applying o-minimality to algebraic geometry and number theory, and for proving Griffiths' Conjecture.
