E-Samudra Digital Platform for Maritime Governance

On 8th August 2026, Union Minister for Ports, Shipping and Waterways launched E-Samudra, a comprehensive digital platform to transform maritime governance in India.

  • The platform brings services for seafarers, shipping companies, ports and other maritime stakeholders under a single digital window.
  • E-Samudra provides end-to-end digital workflows, online payments, real-time tracking and digitally issued certificates.
  • The Directorate General of Maritime Administration (DGMA) also showcased e-NAVIK 24×7, the upcoming Seafarer Tracking Dashboard and the Digital Seafarers Employment Agreement (d-SEA).
  • India has become the second-largest supplier of seafarers globally, with its active seafarer workforce rising from around 1.03 lakh in 2013 to over 3.23 lakh in 2025.
