Kavach 4.0 Approved for Izzatnagar Division

On 12th August 2026, Indian Railways approved the deployment of Kavach Version 4.0 across 660 route km of the Izzatnagar Division of North Eastern Railway at an estimated cost of ₹295 crore.

  • The project has been approved under the umbrella work for providing Kavach with a Long-Term Evolution (LTE) communication backbone on the balance sections of Indian Railways.
  • The approved work will cover the remaining sections of the Izzatnagar Division and further strengthen railway safety infrastructure.
  • Kavach is India’s indigenously developed Automatic Train Protection (ATP) system designed to prevent Signal Passed at Danger (SPAD) incidents and train collisions.
  • The system continuously monitors train movements and can automatically apply brakes when required.
