NCDC (Amendment) Bill, 2026

On 12th August 2026, Parliament passed the National Co-operative Development Corporation (NCDC) (Amendment) Bill, 2026, with the Rajya Sabha approving it after the Lok Sabha had already passed it. The Bill seeks to expand NCDC’s role and make funding for the cooperative sector more flexible.

Direct Funding: NCDC can provide loans and grants directly to cooperative societies and entities engaged in cooperative development.
State Government Funding: State governments can extend NCDC funding to any entity involved in cooperative development.
NCDC: The National Co-operative Development Corporation was established in 1963 to provide financial assistance for the organised and sustained development of the cooperative sector.
Cooperative Network: India has more than 8 lakh cooperative societies with around 30 crore members, making the cooperative sector one of the largest cooperative networks in the world.
