Union Cabinet Approves Railway and Highway Projects

On 19th August 2026, the Union Cabinet approved five infrastructure projects worth ₹13,041 crore, including four railway multitracking projects and one highway project.
Key Points
- Railway Projects: Four multitracking projects will cover eight districts across West Bengal, Odisha, Tamil Nadu and Andhra Pradesh.
- Kharagpur–Bhadrak: A fourth railway line will be developed between Kharagpur and Bhadrak.
- Bhadrak–Haridaspur: A fourth railway line will be constructed on this section.
- Gummidipundi–Gudur: Third and fourth railway lines will be added to the section.
- Cuttack–Paradeep: Third and fourth railway lines will be developed along this route.
- Railway Expansion: The projects will add around 410 km to the Indian Railways network.
- Project Cost: The four railway projects involve an estimated investment of ₹9,450 crore.
- Completion: The railway projects are scheduled for completion by 2030–31.
- NH-22 Upgrade: The Muzaffarpur–Sitamarhi–Sonbarsa section of NH-22 in Bihar will be upgraded to four-lane standards.
