On 7th September 2026, Malayalam filmmaker R Sarath died at a private hospital, aged 65.

• He worked across direction, screenwriting and storytelling in Malayalam cinema.
• His career included feature films, short films and documentaries.
• His 2000 film Sayahnam won the Indira Gandhi Award.
• Sayahnam also received seven Kerala State Film Awards.
• His film The Desire – A Journey of a Woman won at the Geneva International Film Festival 2011.
• He directed films including Sthithi, Sheelabathi, Swayam and Paradise.
• His short films included Achinte Katha, Chumar Chithrangal and Mahatma Gandhi Road.
