Rs. 1,789 Crore Smart Traffic System for Delhi

On September 30, 2026, the Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA) approved an Intelligent Traffic Management System (ITMS) project worth Rs. 1,789.52 crore for Delhi.
Key Facts:
- Project Scope: ITMS will be implemented across 42 identified traffic corridors in Delhi in three phases over 24 months, followed by five years of operation and maintenance.
- Adaptive Signals: An AI-enabled adaptive traffic control system at 1,092 locations will automatically adjust signal timings based on real-time traffic conditions.
- Automated Enforcement: Violations such as speeding, red-light jumping, wrong-side driving, illegal parking, and mobile phone usage will be identified across 1,029 enforcement sites.
- Emergency Priority: The system will assist in providing green corridors and priority routes for ambulances and other emergency vehicles.
- Real-time Information: Commuters will receive real-time information regarding congestion, diversions, parking availability, and road conditions through digital channels and Variable Message Signs (VMS).
- Implementation: The project will be implemented by the Delhi Police, while C-DAC will support technical monitoring and verification as the Project Management Consultant.
