Adaptation Gap Report 2024

The United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) released the Adaptation Gap Report 2024: "Come hell and high water" in November 2024.

The report evaluates the global progress in climate change adaptation planning, finance, capacity-building, and sectoral readiness amid escalating climate impacts.

Global Findings & Trends

  • Global temperatures are rapidly approaching the 1.5°C threshold above pre-industrial levels, intensifying climate risks.
  • 171 countries (87%) now have at least one National Adaptation Planning (NAP) instrument. 51% of these countries have developed a second instrument, and 20% have a third.
  • Adaptation finance gap remains wide:
    • International public finance for adaptation rose from $22 billion (2021) to $28 billion (2022).
