The International Monetary Fund (IMF) is a key international organisation whose primary objectives include maintaining global financial stability, promoting monetary cooperation, facilitating international trade, encouraging sustainable development and high employment, and reducing global poverty.

India’s Finance Minister is an ex-officio member of the IMF Board of Governors, while the Governor of the Reserve Bank of India serves as the Alternate Governor. India holds a significant quota in the IMF, giving it substantial voting power within the institution.
