United Nations Ocean Conference (UNOC3)

The 3rd UN Ocean Conference (UNOC3) was held in Nice, France, from 9 to 13 June 2025. It was organized by the United Nations to advance global action on SDG 14: Life Below Water, focusing on marine protection and sustainable ocean governance.

UNOC3 Objectives

  • Launch the “Nice Ocean Agreements” aligned with the UN’s 2015 SDGs.
  • Promote the BBNJ Agreement to regulate high seas biodiversity.
  • Target: Ratification by 60 countries for effective implementation.

  • Adoption of the “Our Ocean, Our Future: United for Urgent Action” declaration.
  • Over 95 countries supported a legally binding treaty on plastics, backed by indigenous leaders for justice.
