India’s engagement with the Bay of Bengal Initiative for Multi-Sectoral Technical and Economic Cooperation (BIMSTEC) has gained momentum, especially in 2024–2025, with a renewed focus on connectivity, disaster management, and energy cooperation. India views BIMSTEC as a key platform to enhance regional integration and support its “Act East” and “Neighbourhood First” policies.
