NCBC Submits Delayed Annual Reports to President
- 31 May 2025
On 30th May, 2025, the National Commission for Backward Classes (NCBC) submitted its Annual Reports for 2022–23 and 2023–24 to President Droupadi Murmu, marking a delayed but crucial step in reviewing OBC welfare.
Key Points
- Mandated Oversight: The NCBC is constitutionally required to submit yearly reports assessing safeguards and welfare measures for Other Backward Classes (OBCs).
- Delayed Submission: The latest reports were delayed due to data collection challenges and dependency on States and Union ministries for Action-Taken Reports (ATRs).
- Pending in Parliament: The reports will be made public only after being tabled in Parliament with ATRs; the last such report laid was the 2019–2022 consolidated report.
- Parallel Delays: Similar backlogs exist with the National Commissions for Scheduled Castes (NCSC) and Scheduled Tribes (NCST), whose recent reports are also pending tabling.
