FASTag-Based Annual Pass Launched for Private Vehicles

On 18th June 2025, centre announced the launch of a FASTag-based Annual Pass for non-commercial vehicles, effective from 15th August 2025. The initiative aims to simplify toll payments and promote smoother travel on National Highways.
Key Points
- Annual Pass Details: Priced at Rs. 3,000, the pass will be valid for one year from activation or up to 200 trips, whichever comes first.
- Eligible Vehicles: Available exclusively for non-commercial private vehicles such as cars, jeeps, and vans.
- Objective: To ensure seamless and cost-effective highway travel, reduce wait times, and minimise toll booth disputes.
- Accessibility: Activation and renewal can be done via the Rajmarg Yatra App and the websites of NHAI and MoRTH.
- Technology Base: Uses FASTag RFID technology under the National Electronic Toll Collection (NETC) system, first introduced in 2014.
- Future Integration: Will complement the upcoming ANPR-FASTag-based Barrier-Less Tolling System, combining automatic number plate recognition and FASTag to enable stop-free tolling.
- Enforcement Measures: Non-compliance may result in e-Notices, FASTag suspension, and penalties under VAHAN regulations.
