Swachh Awards Honour Promising Clean Cities

On 17th July 2025, President Droupadi Murmu conferred the Swachh Survekshan 2024–25 Awards in New Delhi, celebrating top-performing cities and launching new initiatives to boost India’s urban sanitation efforts.

  • The Swachh Survekshan 2024–25 recognised 43 cities across India for their exemplary contributions to cleanliness, with Ahmedabad, Bhopal, and Lucknow emerging as the top-ranked Swachh Shehar, marking the arrival of a new generation of clean cities.
  • A total of 34 cities from different States and Union Territories were honoured as Promising Swachh Shehars, following the “One City, One Award” principle, encouraging fair competition across population categories.
  • Special awards were presented to Prayagraj as the Best Ganga Town and to Secunderabad Cantonment for its sanitation leadership, while GVMC Visakhapatnam, Jabalpur, and Gorakhpur were named Best SafaiMitra Surakshit Shehar for safeguarding sanitation workers’ dignity.
