Rajasthan Implements SC-Mandated Stray Dog Management

  • 27 Aug 2025

On 27th August 2025, the Rajasthan government became the first state to issue detailed orders for systematic stray dog management in line with the Supreme Court’s directive and the Animal Birth Control (ABC) Rules, 2023.

  • The Department of Autonomous Governance has made compliance with the Animal Birth Control (ABC) Rules 2023 compulsory for all municipal corporations, councils, and municipalities across Rajasthan.
  • Under the new order, specific feeding points for stray dogs will be designated in every ward and locality, with coordination between urban local bodies, resident welfare associations, and animal welfare organisations to ensure implementation.
  • Even in situations where rabies cases are reported, the government has directed that food and water arrangements must continue at the identified feeding spots.
