UDISE+ 2024-25 Report Highlights School Education Progress

On 28th August 2025, the Ministry of Education released the Unified District Information System for Education Plus (UDISE+) 2024–25 report, highlighting significant improvements in India’s school education system.

Key Points

  • Teacher Strength: For the first time since 2018–19, the total number of teachers in India crossed one crore, a 6.7% increase over 2022–23.
  • Pupil-Teacher Ratios: Ratios improved across all levels:
    • Foundational level: 10 students per teacher
    • Preparatory level: 13 students per teacher
    • Middle level: 17 students per teacher
    • Secondary level: 21 students per teacher
  • Gross Enrolment Ratios (GER): Improved access to education:
    • Middle level GER: 90.3%
    • Secondary level GER: 68.5%
  • Transition Rates: Increased progression between foundational, preparatory, middle, and secondary levels, indicating better student retention.
  • School Infrastructure: Notable improvements include:
    • Single-teacher schools: From 110,971 to 104,125
    • Zero-enrolment schools: From 12,954 to 7,993
    • Computer availability: 64.7%, Internet connectivity: 63.5%
    • Electricity coverage: 93.6%, Drinking water: 99.3%, Handwashing facilities: 95.9%
    • Accessibility (ramps & handrails): 54.9%
  • Gender Equity: Female teacher representation increased to 54.2%, and girls’ enrolment rose to 48.3% in 2024–25.
