On 31st August 2025, the Ramon Magsaysay Foundation announced that the Indian non-profit Foundation to Educate Girls Globally, widely known as Educate Girls, has been named one of the recipients of the 2025 Ramon Magsaysay Award, Asia’s most prestigious honour.

  • Educate Girls is the first Indian organisation to receive the Ramon Magsaysay Award, which is often regarded as Asia’s equivalent of the Nobel Prize.
  • The non-profit, founded in 2007 by Safeena Husain in Rajasthan, focuses on mobilising communities and leveraging government resources to improve girls’ education in rural and educationally disadvantaged regions of India.
  • The Foundation’s model works by identifying the most underserved communities, enrolling out-of-school girls into classrooms, and ensuring they remain in school until they achieve the credentials needed for higher education and employment.
  • The Ramon Magsaysay Foundation cited Educate Girls’ grassroots, community-led approach as a model of sustainable social change, combining government partnership, volunteer mobilization, and household-level interventions.
