Iran, IAEA Agree on Inspection Deal Framework
- 10 Sep 2025
On 9th September 2025, Iran and the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) announced a framework agreement to resume nuclear inspections at sites damaged by U.S. and Israeli strikes earlier this year, though key details were not disclosed, and Tehran warned the deal would collapse if sanctions were re-imposed.
- The framework comes at a time when European powers—France, Britain, and Germany (the E3)—have triggered the “snapback” process to restore U.N. sanctions lifted under the 2015 nuclear deal, warning that only a credible inspection process, accounting for enriched uranium stockpiles, and renewed U.S.-Iran nuclear talks would prevent re-imposition.
- While Iran’s enrichment facilities were badly hit in the airstrikes, questions remain over the fate of its stockpile, which includes uranium enriched up to 60%, just below the 90% threshold for weapons-grade material, according to IAEA reports circulated to member states.
