India-UK Navies Begin Exercise KONKAN-2025

On 5th October 2025, the Indian Navy and the Royal Navy commenced the bilateral Exercise KONKAN-2025 off India’s western coast to strengthen maritime cooperation.

  • Exercise KONKAN-2025 reaffirms the shared commitment of India and the United Kingdom to maintaining secure, open, and free seas while exemplifying the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership outlined in the India-UK Vision 2035.
  • The exercise is structured in two phases, with the harbour phase focusing on professional interactions, cross-deck visits, sports fixtures, and cultural exchanges between naval personnel.
  • Joint Working Group meetings and Subject Matter Expert exchanges are planned during the harbour phase to facilitate knowledge sharing and enhance operational synergy between the two navies.
  • The sea phase will involve complex maritime operational drills emphasizing anti-air, anti-surface, and anti-submarine warfare, along with flying operations and other seamanship evolutions.
  • Both navies are deploying frontline assets, including aircraft carriers, destroyers, frigates, submarines, and integral as well as shore-based air assets, ensuring a comprehensive demonstration of naval capabilities.
