On 12th November 2025, the Ministry of External Affairs announced the full-scale rollout of the upgraded Passport Seva Programme (PSP V2.0), the Global Passport Seva Programme (GPSP V2.0), and the launch of e-Passports for citizens in India and abroad, marking a significant leap towards modernising passport issuance and strengthening security through advanced technology.

  • The revamped Passport Seva Programme was implemented simultaneously across all 37 Passport Offices, 93 Passport Seva Kendras, and 450 Post Office Passport Seva Kendras to ensure uniform access to upgraded passport services for citizens.
  • The Global Passport Seva Programme, tailored for Indian missions abroad, was deployed worldwide on 28 October 2025, enabling Indian Embassies and Consulates to transition to an integrated and digitally streamlined passport issuance framework.
  • The upgraded system connects all stakeholders involved in passport processing through a unified digital platform, significantly enhancing coordination, transparency, and efficiency across the entire service lifecycle.
  • The new platforms include AI-powered chatbots and voice bots designed to assist users throughout the application journey, respond to queries, and support grievance redressal in a more responsive and user-friendly manner.
