On 12th November 2025, Indonesia’s Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki erupted twice, sending massive plumes of volcanic ash into the sky and prompting authorities to elevate the alert status to its highest level due to rapidly increasing volcanic activity.

  • Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki, located in East Nusa Tenggara province, erupted early for nearly nine minutes, shooting volcanic ash up to 10 kilometres into the atmosphere as confirmed by the country’s Geological Agency.
  • A second eruption occurred the same morning at 9:21 a.m., lasting about three minutes and spewing ash columns reaching a height of 8 kilometres, indicating continued instability within the volcano’s magmatic system.
  • Indonesia’s volcanology agency had already raised the alert status to the highest level late Tuesday after detecting a significant escalation in volcanic activity beginning on Monday, reflecting the growing threat to surrounding communities.
