Union Budget 2026–27 Presented in Parliament

On 1st February 2026, Union Finance and Corporate Affairs Minister Nirmala Sitharaman presented the Union Budget 2026–27 in Parliament, outlining a Yuva Shakti–driven roadmap anchored in three Kartavya to accelerate growth, build capacity and ensure inclusive development.

- Budget Vision and Philosophy: The Budget is the first to be prepared in Kartavya Bhawan and is inspired by three Kartavya focusing on economic growth, fulfilment of people’s aspirations and inclusive development aligned with Sabka Sath, Sabka Vikas.
- Focus on Poor and Disadvantaged: Emphasising the government’s Sankalp, the Budget prioritises the poor, underprivileged and disadvantaged while balancing ambition with inclusion on the path to Viksit Bharat.
- Economic Growth Strategy: Under the first Kartavya, interventions target scaling manufacturing in seven strategic sectors, rejuvenating legacy industries, creating Champion MSMEs, boosting infrastructure, ensuring energy security and developing city economic regions.
- Public Capital Expenditure: Public capex has been raised from ₹11.2 lakh crore in BE 2025–26 to ₹12.2 lakh crore in FY 2026–27 to sustain infrastructure momentum.
- Manufacturing and MSMEs: A ₹10,000 crore SME Growth Fund has been proposed to create future MSME champions, while Biopharma SHAKTI with an outlay of ₹10,000 crore aims to build domestic capacity in biologics and biosimilars.
- Textiles and Employment: An integrated programme for the textile sector includes the National Fibre Scheme, cluster modernisation, handloom and handicraft support, Tex-Eco initiative and Samarth 2.0 for skilling.
- Transport and Connectivity: Seven high-speed rail corridors will be developed as growth connectors, along with new Dedicated Freight Corridors and the operationalisation of 20 National Waterways.
- Urban and Regional Development: City Economic Regions will be mapped and supported with ₹5,000 crore per CER over five years through a reform-linked financing mechanism.
