Eric Dane

On 19th February 2026, actor Eric Dane passed away at the age of 53 following a battle with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), also known as Lou Gehrig’s disease.

Dane publicly revealed his ALS diagnosis in 2025 and in his final months, he became an advocate for ALS awareness and research.
He was best known for his role as Dr. Mark Sloan (McSteamy) in Grey's Anatomy.
He also portrayed Cal Jacobs in HBO’s Euphoria and appeared in NBC’s Brilliant Minds.
Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) is a progressive neurodegenerative disease that damages motor neurons in the brain and spinal cord, which control voluntary muscle movements.
As these nerve cells degenerate, patients experience increasing muscle weakness, difficulty in speaking and swallowing, paralysis, and eventually respiratory failure.
