India Abstains in UNGA Vote on Russia-Ukraine Ceasefire

On 24th February 2026, India abstained in the United Nations General Assembly on a draft resolution demanding an immediate, full and unconditional ceasefire between Russia and Ukraine.

  • Resolution Adopted: The draft resolution titled “Support for Lasting Peace in Ukraine” was adopted by the 193-member UN General Assembly with 107 votes in favour, 12 against and 51 abstentions.
  • India Among Abstaining Nations: India was one of the 51 countries that abstained, along with nations including Brazil, China, South Africa, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, UAE and the United States.
