Mt Aconcagua

On 22nd February 2026, a joint expedition team from Nehru Institute of Mountaineering (NIM), Uttarkashi and Jawahar Institute of Mountaineering & Winter Sports (JIM&WS), Pahalgam successfully summited Mt Aconcagua in Argentina.

• Mt Aconcagua stands at 6,961 metres above sea level.
• It is the highest peak in South America.
• The expedition team comprised six members.
• The team was led by Col Hem Chandra Singh.
• The expedition was flagged off by Defence Minister Rajnath Singh on February 5.
• Bonete Peak was climbed for acclimatisation before summit attempt.
