NITI Aayog Appoints Two New Full-Time Members

On 2nd May 2026, PM approved the appointment of Dr R. Balasubramaniam and Dr Joram Aniya as full-time members of NITI Aayog.

With these appointments, the total number of full-time members rises to seven.
Dr R. Balasubramaniam has served in the Capacity Building Commission and is an author.
Dr Joram Aniya is an academician with over 18 years of experience in teaching, research, and public policy.
She is the first woman from the Nyishi community to earn a PhD and the first Hindi doctorate in Arunachal Pradesh.
The appointments follow a broader restructuring of NITI Aayog.
Earlier, Ashok Lahiri was appointed Vice-Chairman, replacing Suman Bery.
Other new members include Abhay Karandikar and Dr M. Srinivas.
This marks the first major revamp of NITI Aayog since its establishment in 2015.
