India’s First Fully Paperless Judiciary State

On 1st May 2026, Sikkim was recognised as India’s first state to implement a completely paperless judiciary, marking a major step in digital justice delivery.

  • The announcement was made by Chief Justice of India, Surya Kant, at a National Conclave on Technology and Judicial Education in Gangtok.
  • The system enables end-to-end digital operations, including e-filing, digital records, virtual hearings, and automated workflows.
  • It aims to reduce case pendency, speed up hearings, and enhance efficiency in justice delivery.
  • Advanced tools like AI-based systems SUPACE and SUVAS are being used for research, translation, and case management.
