India and Sweden Move towards Strategic Partnership

On 17th May 2026, India and Sweden agreed to elevate bilateral ties to a Strategic Partnership during Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to Gothenburg to strengthen cooperation in trade, technology, security, innovation, and sustainability.

Joint Action Plan: India and Sweden adopted the India-Sweden Joint Action Plan 2026-2030 for expanding cooperation across political, economic, technological, and cultural sectors.
Four Key Pillars: The partnership will focus on security dialogue, economic cooperation, emerging technologies, and sustainability and resilience.
Technology Cooperation: Both countries agreed to deepen collaboration in AI, digitalisation, clean technologies, advanced manufacturing, and sustainable mobility.
