India-UK: Critical Minerals Global Supply Chain Observatory

On 4th June 2026, India and the United Kingdom formally launched the India–UK Critical Minerals Global Supply Chain Observatory (GSCO) to strengthen cooperation on critical minerals, supply chain resilience, and resource security for clean energy and advanced technologies.

Background: The initiative was announced during the India–UK Prime Ministers' bilateral engagement in October 2025 and formalised through a research collaboration agreement in March 2026.
Objective: The GSCO aims to monitor, analyse, and improve the resilience of global critical mineral supply chains.
Significance of Critical Minerals: Critical minerals are essential for:

- oElectric vehicles (EVs)
- oAdvanced manufacturing
- oStrategic and emerging technologies
Support to India: The Observatory will strengthen India's critical mineral intelligence capabilities and support evidence-based policymaking under the National Critical Mineral Mission (NCMM).
