On 4th June 2026, former Lok Sabha Secretary-General and noted constitutional expert Subhash C. Kashyap passed away at the age of 97.

  • Dr. Kashyap was one of India's foremost constitutional scholars and experts on parliamentary democracy.
  • He served as the Secretary-General of the Lok Sabha from 1983 to 1990.
  • He was a member of the high-level committee headed by former President Ram Nath Kovind that was tasked with preparing a legal framework for simultaneous elections in India.
  • An accomplished author, he wrote more than 100 books on the Constitution, parliamentary procedures, governance and democratic institutions.
  • Born in 1929 in a family of freedom fighters at Chadpur in Bijnor in the then United Provinces (now Uttar Pradesh), he actively participated in the national struggle for Independence as a teenager.
  • In 2015, he was awarded the Padma Bhushan.
