On 4th June 2026, renowned Iranian-French author, illustrator and filmmaker Marjane Satrapi passed away at the age of 56.

  • Marjane Satrapi was an internationally acclaimed graphic novelist, filmmaker and artist.
  • Her works often explored themes of identity, exile, freedom, culture and political change.
  • She was best known for the acclaimed graphic novel Persepolis, which narrates her childhood and experiences during and after the Iranian Revolution.
  • The graphic novel was later adapted into the award-winning animated film Persepolis, which she co-directed.
